No matter what the distance is, the first run is said to be memorable for every first-time runner. It is the race that marks the start of a journey as a runner and the one that will serve as a constant reminder of a humble beginning. Last 10 February 2019, the Family Welfare Committee (FWC) organized the Kalilangan 2019 Color Run For-A-Cause Project – a project that aims to help its chosen beneficiaries – The Batang Star Philippines and St. Vincent Home for the Aged at General Santos City Oval Plaza.
FWC is a safe, caring, and friendly-worthwhile community that prides itself on fostering, recognizing and promoting emotionally rich environment for elders’ hope to survive and children’s role to thrive. The committee invited everyone to help materialized the Kalilangan 2019 Color Run for LOVE and Race for HOPE of Elders and Street Children. Participants of the said event were students, government and private sectors, parents, fishing industry workers, police, sports enthusiasts, and other community-members of the TEMPHIL group.
The program commenced with a zumba warm up led by Mr. Xian Chua, a professional dance instructor after which the fun run offficially started. Paticipants ran their way to 3k,5k and 10k routes. Another 30 minute Zumba cool-down was initialized after the said run.
Tokens were given as appreciation to the sponsors such as the Local Government Unit- Gensan, Bureau of Fire Protection-Gensan and Philippine National Police and other non-governmental organization like Red Cross Gensan chapter. Cash prizes and medals were awarded to 15 participants who top the three categories while some won the special awards.
