The municipalities of Tulunan and Makilala in Cotabato are one of the places most severely affected by the terrible earthquake that recently struck different parts of Mindanao. With the threat of additional aftershocks and their homes partially or totally damaged, local government officials promptly prohibited residents from staying in unstable structures causing them to take residence in evacuation centers.

Family Welfare Committee (FWC) in collaboration with the Grievance and Decorum & Investigation of Sexual Harassment (GRIEDISH), Safety, Health, and Environment Committee (SHEC) as well as in partnership with Batang Star Philippines, Gensan branch – a non-profit, non-government and development-based organization, initiated to render assistance to our fellow citizens who were victims of this adversity. This was through the means of collecting donations such as rice, canned goods, noodles, medicines, used clothes, hygiene kits, shelter kits, and cash last November 05-07, 2019.

These items were brought immediately from General Santos City all the way toTulunan and Makilala Cotabato last November 08, 2019 with the help of the volunteers from the TEMPHIL Group and Batang Star Ph. Inc. who allotted their time and efforts to show concerns to the affected communities. Without hesitation, the volunteers supported these victims as they grapple with the devastating consequences of this disaster.

This initiative proves that in times of calamities and disasters, the “Bayanihan” spirit of the TEMPHIL Group and its committees become stronger and more evident as they support those Earthquake victims to stand amid adversity.
